The Prototype:
The 2-8-2 “Mikados” were among the most successful steam locomotives of all time. The first Mikados were built in 1897 at the Baldwin Locomotive Works for the narrow gauge railways of Japan. During World War I, the United States Railroad Administration adopted the Mikado as its standard freight locomotive, and more than a thousand “Mikes” were made for American railways. Later, thousands more were supplied to railways around the world. Many Mikados survived until the end of the steam era in the 1950s, a clear indication for a successful design.

Comes with original box and two foam cases, one for loco and one for tender.
Engineer included to drive this 3 foot long locomotive (note track not included).
Fire box and interior, front and rear lights are low voltage for bright operation on analog power and remote controlled with optional DCC Decoder..
Note: We are LGB dealers and have noted that the currently manufactured LGB Mikados are made in Hungary and only have one paint scheme and use stickers for different road names. This loco is made in Germany and has a power jack at the rear of the tender for powering lights on following cars or holiday lighting such as our holiday 12 LED blinking wreath.
The Volume control is mounted behind the front boiler plate. Screws can be removed to expose the sound board and mounting pins for an LGB plug in decoder or better yet use an ESU LokPilot XL 4 amp decoder, we can do the install if you want DCC just let us know. Be sure to watch the video at the link below to see the synchronized chuff and aux. sounds as the loco is driven. Whistle sounds are automatic for forward and reverse as well as breaking sounds when slowing fast. These work on analog as well as DCC track power when the decoder is installed.
The engineer in the cab is blowing three times, this loco and backing up to pickup its load and will leave the station soon, don't miss it!
For indoor or outdoor use.
