Features:

Made in West Germany - Pre-Marklin, Collectable Item.

Note that all LGB Mikado's came with sound except the SNCF (green French) Mikado 22871, the sound boards from LGB in the Mikado's made under Rolf Richter's regime had no upgrades and were made to an already very outdated sound module used in the first LGB Mikado's produced.

This model has LGB's most reliable drive mechanism and is even better than the current version made in Hungary. That and this model's unique style, color, finish and graphics makes this Mikado your best choice for a new Mikado.

This new LGB Mikado made in Germany is also an ideal candidate for the 16 bit sound from Phoenix Sound or from ESU. The NEW ESU 5.0 XLS 16 bit sound decoders feature 12 watts of 16 bit sound, user downloadable sound files, 17 functions, 4 servo outputs and 4 amp motor drive with ultra smooth slow speed performance.

In addition the ESU pulse smoker can be added for both synchronized puff smoke and bottom steam blow down effects.

The Prototype:

The 2-8-2 “Mikado's” were among the most successful steam locomotives of all time. The first Mikado's were built in 1897 at the Baldwin Locomotive Works for the narrow gauge railways of Japan. During World War I, the United States Railroad Administration adopted the Mikado as its standard freight locomotive, and more than a thousand “Mikes” were delivered to more than a dozen American railways. In the early 1950s, the SNCF urgently needed large numbers of locomotives and ordered the 141R class from the United States and Canada.

The locos were equally at home hauling heavy freight trains or the famous overnight express trains running from Paris to the west of France. Today, you can enjoy these great locomotives on museum railways in France and Switzerland.

The Model: This detailed replica features:

Operates on R1 small radius or larger radius track and switches with analog or MTS/DCC track power.
