THE PROTOTYPE

Light-duty, narrow-gauge railways transport goods in factories, mines, quarries, as well as on farms and construction sites around the world.

These "field" railroads rapidly gained worldwide popularity after 1880, whether to haul agricultural products on the large estates of the Baltic Island of Rugen, sugar cane on plantations in the U. S. or slate in British quarries.

In recent decades, motorized trucks have made inroads, but a few light railways continue to operate. Mining operations use small locomotives. And finally, you can enjoy light railroads in numerous museums and parks.

THE MODEL

The field railroad buffers at each end of the locomotive work as loop-type couplers. To couple, the first car of your train has to be oriented with the coupler hook facing the loco. You can replace the buffers with a standard LGB coupler loop.

THE PROGRAM

This model is part of the LGB and Shourt Line programs of quality G-scale trains and accessories.

The Shourt Line SL Mini-Car Program cars share the same LGB Couplers and car dimensions as the LGB FRR cars but use PIKO metal wheels and come with SL Walk-Way Platforms for easy movement between cars and SL Link-Pins for optional coupling between SL Mini-Cars.
